Cooperative learning is a type of educational approach that uses classroom activities to help foster learning experiences. Students are put into groups where they must work together to complete goals. This approach teaches students to use each other as resources to evaluate each other and ask one another for information. Every cooperative learning activity includes face to face interaction, interdependence and group accountability.
Poetry is normally done individually. If you are looking to make cooperative learning a part of how you teach poetry it is possible. Activities which require each student to write one verse which will be then be combined with the others in their group would require face to face interaction and group accountability. I don’t believe this would be the most effective way to teach the subject.
Cooperative learning does not have a place in our final interactive learning design. The approach would not be as effective as others and the possible activities are limited. Approaches such as direct instruction and experiential learning would better suit teaching poetry.
